Getting Ready—Expanding Horizons and Expanding Resources
Getting Ready—Expanding
Horizons and Expanding Resources
One of the reasons why I wanted to pursue my master’s
in early childhood studies was to have the opportunity to learn more about children
and the resources available to them. I always wanted to become more aware of
issues that are affecting children around the world. I believe it is important
to not just focus on the issues that are occurring within my facility, but to
be aware of all the issues that could be affecting children. The early
childhood organization website that I have chosen to explore more is Save the
Children. I have chosen to explore this organization, because it is one that I
have heard of since I was child. However, I do not know a lot about the organization.
I only know what I have seen from the commercials I saw growing up.
According to Save the Children, “We know the world’s
children deserve better. As the world’s leading expert on childhood, we have
the expertise and the global presence to deliver what’s needed now for
children.” (Save the Children, 2021). This statement immediately grabbed my attention
because it’s the truth. Children do deserve better from the adults that can and
should care for them in this world. The Save the Children website offers astonishing
statics on the health and deaths of children around the world. According to
Save the Children, “1 in 4 children under age five have stunted growth due to
malnutrition.” (Save the Children, 2021). With all the food that is wasted in
this world, it saddens me to know that children are dying from malnutrition.
The Save the Children website provides information on
the services they provide for children. The organization provides health
services to children and mothers. They provide meals to children. In addition,
they help families develop longstanding food solutions.
The organization offers education, health care, protection,
emergency response, child sponsorship, policy, and advocacy for children all over
the world. I was not aware that the organization did all of this for children. The
country works with over 100 countries. Considering there are 194 countries in
the world, the organization works with at least half the world. The organization
supports the early childhood community by being a resource that wants to provide
the basic needs of a child.
The Save the Children website offers articles related
to children. The article I read was titled, These 10 Countries in Conflict Are
the Worst Places to Be a Child. This article speaks about how there are
children in this world that are growing up in war torn countries. They are not
experiencing a childhood like most of us have. There childhood is being stolen
from them. The article missions that the organization creates “Child-friendly
spaces” in places that are in conflict. I found this to be interesting because
how can any space be friendly in a country in war. I suppose the organization
finds a way.
The podcasts that I chose to explore are Raising Good
Humans and Real Talk for Real Teacher. The podcast that I have chosen is called
Raising Good Humans. The podcast is hosted by Dr. Aliza Pressman she is a
parent, psychologist, assistant clinical professor and co-founder of Mount
Sinai Parenting Center and Seedlings Group. During her podcast she explores
effective techniques and tools for other parents to use when raising their
children. She does not focus on only one age group, which is something that I
liked. The podcast Real Talk for Real Teaches is hosted by Dr. Becky Bailey. According
to the website, “Becky explores trends in social-emotional learning and
classroom management.” (Consciousness Discipline, 2021). I hope to learn some
useful techniques from the podcasts.

Love your post. I am glad we are both researching this organization because we can gain knowledge from each other. I was going to read the 10 country article. Glad you found it interesting. I will look into it. Also, I've never done podcasts before. How did you find them. I just added two articles on my blog because I didn't know where to find podcasts related to Save the Children. Did you just use you-tube?
ReplyDeleteI've read the book Raising Good Humans and it was pretty god. I learned a lot of valuable information from it.
