Sharing Web Resources- Week 4
Sharing Web Resources- Week 4
The
website that I have chosen to study is Save the Children. I chose this website
because during my search for a website I became aware that this organization
does more than feed children. The Save the Children organization helps children
with receive an education, proper health, and protection. The section on the
website that seems particularly relevant to my current professional development
is the one regarding protection. As a
childcare professional I am a mandated reporter. As a mandated reporter I am
responsible for reporting any type of violence made towards children. Even if
those children are not in my direct care. It is crucial that I am aware of the protection that is needed by
children. In the last year and half the children in my care have needed
protection from the Covid-19 virus. According to Save the Children, “ COVID-19
has not only robbed millions of children of their education, their safety and their health,
it’s robbed them of their childhood.” (Save the Children,
2021). To make sure the children within my facility were not robbed of their
education, my facility provided virtual learning space within our facility
during school hours. By providing a space and assistance to children during the
pandemic many children were to remain successful in school.
Save the Children expects money donations from those that
wish to help. A statement that I found controversial on the website was “When
you give to Save the Children, 86% of every dollar goes straight to
our mission to provide lifesaving relief to children. “ (Save the
Children, 2021). I find this statement to be controversial because I would like
to see all donation money given to the programs that support the children. I
would like to see the staff receive payment from another source or an increase
in the percentage amount that is provided to the program. However, I did
appreciate that the organizations financial statements are made available on
the website.
Some information that the
website contains that adds to my understanding of how politicians support
positive social change through the early childhood field would be the
importance of providing children an education the website promotes. Politicians
view the education of children as an invest of the future. Save the Children
organization is helping hundreds of countries with providing education to
children. Even in countries that are in conflict or at war, Save the Children
can be found there helping children maintain the educational opportunities
By exploring the website,
I gained more insight about the issue of Covid-19 affecting children’s
education. I was pleased to read that Save the Children is helping children in over
200 communities in the United States with their school experience. I believe it
is vital that organizations step up and help children with their education
during the pandemic. I fear that millions of children will fall behind in their
education due to virtual learning. Children
that struggle to learn virtually could potential drop out and not complete
their high school education due to frustration.

Thank you for sharing. The information you provided on Save the Children is very informative. I have always wished when money is donated to organization that all money raised went to the cause and there was another way staff could be paid. I love that all the organization are committed to making awareness and addressing how COVID19 is affecting children's education around the world.
ReplyDeleteMy school also did virtual learning and still do on some days. I don't like it all at. On virtual I send home activities and games so we can do together. Out of a class of 10 children I only about 3-4 to log on every day and only 1 pays attention. How is virtual working out for you? How do you keep your students up and learning?
ReplyDeleteI think 86% of the funds going directly to the children is a huge amount. I agree that they should try and get the other 14% from another source other then the donations. That is easier said then done. My school also did virtual learning as did all the schools in the area. But the virtual learning was a struggle for many children and a huge undertaking to the staff. Many teachers decided to retire because of covid-19.
