Final Blog Assignment - Issues and Trends
Final Blog Assignment
Prior to taken this
course I was unaware of the many issues that are affecting children outside of
the United States. It is easy to live in this world and only think of those
that are in your life. The first consequence of learning about the
international early childhood field for my professional and personal
development was how Covid-19 is affecting children and childcare in countries
outside of the United States. There are
millions of children around the world who simply went without an education or
childcare due to the pandemic. Not only did these children experience the death
that came with the virus, but they experienced it with no support. Know one can
predict when the world will return back to how it was before March 2020. I cannot
help to think about all the children that are missing out on their childhood
and education due to the panic, it is sad.
The second consequence of
learning about the international early childhood field for my professional and
personal development was realizing I need to be an advocate not only for the
children in my care but for children around the world. It is vital that I stay
aware of the issues that are affecting children around the world. The Save the
Children organization made me more aware that through donations and reading
their articles, I can contribute to the lives of children that I will never meet.
By sharing the information I learn I can change children’s lives. I now see the
importance of researching international and national organizations to find out
the issues affecting children.
The third consequence of
learning about the international early childhood field for my professional and
personal development was learning that there are many organizations that were
created to ensure children have rights, an education, and healthy lives. I have
enjoyed reading about the organizations my classmates presented in their blogs.
Each organization provides resources and additional information that a childcare
professional needs to better care for children. I was unaware that the National
Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) provide information
about events and recommends books related to childcare on their website.
One goal that I have for
the field related to international awareness of issues and trends and the spirt
of collegial relations is that I will continue to search for more international
and national resource that will allow me to gain more information and help
children. I recently completed my American Red Cross Instructor Training. After
completing my training, I asked my instructor if the American Red Cross did anything
for children internationally such as Save the Children does. She explained to
me that it does and most recently it assisted with distributing the vaccine in
some poor countries and educating children on the importance of handwashing
with a program called Scrubby the Bear. As I continue my childcare profession I
will continue to search for resources.
Throughout this course, I appreciate your contributions regarding the various topics discussed. Being a teacher, it is essential to stay motivated and utilize all resources to support the early childhood field, the children, and their families, as well as other educators passionate about doing the best for their students. It would be wonderful to see the field flourish and blossom for all the wonderful benefits it offers for young children, their families, and early childhood professionals. I plan to share some of the resources that I have found with others, mostly families, to let everyone know we stand together in this battle.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. Srubby the Bear sounds like a great program. I like looking for resources at a local level, that way they are easier to utilize for my own students.
