Assignment 2: Research Around the World
Assignment 2: Research
Around the World
Since I am currently
living overseas in Europe, the link that I have chosen to explore is
European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA). The EECERA
link provides the reader with journals related to early childhood. The journals
are referred to as European Early Childhood Education Research Journal (EECERJ).
The journals focus on issues that are affecting kids and families.
Some of the current
international research topics that can be found on the link are related to the
culture of early childhood, teachers’ perspectives of early childhood, and
nutrition polices. These are topics that are an issue not only in Europe but
internationally. The articles related to these topics were published as recent
as June 2021.
A new insight that I
gained from exploring the EECERJ website was from a journal article called ‘I
thought all you needed for a successful class was a desk and paper … ’:
shifting pedagogies in pre-service teachers’ drawings of early childhood
classrooms by Leslie Rech Penn, Kyunghwa Lee, Robert Capuozzo &
Francesca Pase. The article stated, “The findings reveal that PS teachers’
perceptions of and experience with materials and environment in the classroom
may have a direct influence on ways they incorporate materials and environment
in their future pedagogies” (Penn, Lee, Capuozzo & Pase, 2021). In my
experience with childcare, I have noticed that teachers typically incorporate
materials that they have had previous experience with. Often teachers will
struggle with incorporating new materials into a program if they do not have
training. This is why I believe it is important to continuously provide
training to all staff. It is vital that teachers combine old and new methods
into their program.
Some other noteworthy
information that I found on the website was information about EECERA annual
conference. The conference provides high quality information in regard to early
childcare. The conference offers delegates an opportunity to present and share
information. Over a thousand delegates attend the conference. This year’s
conference is in Croatia in September. I will continue to explore this website
after this course in hopes of attending next years conference. In addition, the
website offers point of contacts called Country Coordinators for many
countries. Those interested in learning more about EECERA can reach out to a
Country Coordinator for more information about the association.

Channette, this website sounds informative and like it has a lot of links to international research. The article you read about teachers using materials they are most familiar with is very in line with my experience as a teacher, director, and now as a coach for teachers. Giving teachers time to explore materials and concepts in relation to children's learning and development is very important to innovation in the classroom. Thank you for sharing!
