Assignment 2: When I Think of Research...

When I Think of Research...

When choosing my research simulation, I wanted to pick something that I knew would benefit the children in my care. My research simulation was to conduct a research study that would determine the benefits of providing guidance related to deployments to children of military parents. It is vital that as childcare workers we provide guidance to children based on their needs. My simulation is important to the field of early childhood because it will demonstrate the importance of providing guidance to children. By providing children with guidance, they learn how to handle a variety of situations. In my research simulation children would learn how to cope with their parents’ deployments. The research simulation would help childcare workers determine which methods are most effective and which are not. The research simulation would help childcare worker in the early childhood field have better judgement of the behavior’s children display when dealing with a parent on deployment. The data that would be collected from my research simulation could benefit children that experience parents that travel for work. Young children do display challenging behaviors when they experience the absence and return of a parent that has been gone for a length a time. I believe my research simulation would provide techniques and program that could be useful during the absence and return of parents.

If I were to conduct my simulation proposal, I believe all the variables that participate in the simulation would benefit. In my simulation I have children, parents and Child and Youth Program (CYP) employees that are the variables. I believe the children involved would receive guidance that they can use the rest of their lives that would teach them how to be resilient and deal with the emotional and mental stress of a deployment. Especially, those children that will endure deployments for more years or even decades to come. I believe parents and CYP employees would be able to learn the best techniques or programs that work best for children that experience deployments. In addition, I believe anyone that reads my research simulation would gain valuable information about guidance. My research simulation would provide quality information about guidance to those participate and read the research article. Another benefit of my research proposal would be determining a method that could be used at all military childcare facilities that could help children dealing with deployments.

As a result of this course my perception of an early childhood professional has been modified by making realize that there is more that goes into providing quality care for children other than just providing direct care. I now realize the importance of conducting research and learning about research that has already been conducted. Research enables childcare professionals to provide better quality care for children. I now believe it vital to the success of any childcare program to conduct research. Within my own facility, I hope to conduct my research to determine how I can better support families, my staff, and the needs of the children in my care.

Thank you to all my classmates for your participation in this course. I have enjoyed reading your discussions and blogs. I hope that you have taken away new and enlightening information from this course as I have. After this course, when I think of research, I will think of vital information that took many steps to determine.

  1. Channette, your simulation sounds wonderful! I cannot begin to imagine how hard it is for military families to sacrifice so much for our country. What they do is so honorable and they should be given all of our gratitude and help! Thank you for your insight and collaboration during this class.

  2. Channette, the topic of your simulation is so important and I know their is a great need out there for this! I also loved in your post this week when you said, "It is vital that as childcare workers we provide guidance to children based on their needs". This should literally be ALL that we do as early childhood educators to provide the best care and education to our little ones! Best of luck to you with your next course!!
