The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression - week 8 -6164
The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression
During this course I have gained a
new perspective on how to help families feel respect and accepted when choosing
to enroll their children within my facility. One hope that I have when I think
about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is
that my facility will become a resource they recommend to others. When families
do recommend my facility, I hope that they will explain to others how myself
and my staff accepted and respected their diverse background. I hope that the
children and families within my facility will see their culture represented within
my facility.
One goal that I would like to set
for in the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and
social justice would be to bring more awareness of this issues to my staff. I currently
work at a facility that is on a military base overseas. I have found that staff
often are not aware of some issues related diversity, equity and social justice
that are affecting people in the United States. I believe it is important that
I pass on the information I have learned about diversity, equity, and social
justice to my colleagues. Information is powerful and can help in changing the
world.
Thank you all for participating in
this course with me. I have appreciated your feedback and comments. I wish you
all the best luck as we continue our journey. I hope that we will all be great
resources and mentors in the early childhood field.
Thank you for sharing your post and thanks with us. Being so far away from the U.S. does seem like it would be easy to be disconnected from things happening here. I hope you achieve your goal for yourself and your staff!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your discussion post and blog during the course. Your empathy and vision for the field shows. With everything that is going on with refugees coming to the United States, this is the best opportunity for all educators to learn and understand more about diversity, equity and social justice. We can be a good resource for them as long as we stay current on our research and networking.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing things with us during this course. I think your goal is amazing and I wish you the best of luck with it. Opening people to the idea of learning can be a rough road with some but I think it's definitely an important thing to discuss!
