Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: National/Federal Level
Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: National/Federal Level
I have been a federal employee for about 6 years. I have
been working for the Navy’s Child and Youth Program. I plan to in some way or another
retire as a childcare professional within one of the branches of the United
States Military. There are two federal childcare organizations within the
United States Military. They are Child and Youth Program and Child and Youth
Services. Both of this organizations appeal to me because the policies and procedures
are very similar. In addition, it allows me the opportunity to give back to my
country. I am very honored and humbled to know that the servicemembers that defend
my country trust me to provide a high-quality childcare service to their
children.
The best place to look for job opportunities that are CYP or
CYS is on the website USAjobs.gov. There are many opportunities that are
available. However, only a select few are interesting to me because once I complete
this current course, I will qualify for higher position than what I currently
have. The following job opportunities are of interest to me:
1. Program
Operations Specialist (CYS) NF-04
In order to competently fulfill the role of
a Program Operations Specialist an individual must have four years of program
administration experience in child and youth programs. An individual must be
able to demonstrate the ability to plot, organize work, and analyze problems to
identify significant issues, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions. In addition,

the duties of a Program Operations Specialist are to aid the CYS Services
coordinator with operational functions of the CYS program in accordance with
applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. In addition, assists the CYS
Coordinator with budget preparation and justification. This job opportunity
does not have an education qualification requirement, but it does highly prefer
a candidate that has 2 years’ experience developing two (2) years' experience developing Army NAF
and APF Budget formulations and the execution of budgets to include analyzing
and interpreting the components of an Army NAF financial statement to include
NAF general ledger accounts.
In order to competently fulfill the role of
a Youth Sports Coordinator an individual needs A minimum of a 4-year degree in
Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Youth Development, or other related
degree as appropriate is preferred. However, experience that demonstrates the
ability to plan, organize, coordinate, supervise, or evaluate youth fitness,
recreation, and sports programs AND 3 years of full-time experience working
with children and/or youth is accepted. The individual needs knowledge in regard
to youth recreational sports and fitness
concepts, theories, and principles. Also, skills in planning and carrying out a
military YSF program which meets, as fully as possible, the needs of the
participating community.
Another federal organization that I would be interested in working for is Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) provides community opportunities for service members on bases all over the world. The following is a job opportunity that I would be interested in:
In order to competently fulfill the role of
Supervisory MWR Specialist must be able to
plan and assign work to the section activity managers and other MWR
personnel. Ensure data, facts and necessary statistics are maintained to
program funds for 5 fiscal years. In addition, be able to establish standards,
reviews priorities, goals, objectives, and policies of subordinate activities. One
of the education requirements for this position is a combination of specialized
experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in or related to the work of this
position AND education graduate level education that provided the specific
knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this
position and experience. Experience and education combinations are computed by
first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the
experience required for the grade level; then determining the total of
qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade
level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at
least 100 percent to qualify at that grade level.
